I feel like if every single pro-covid person had casually mentioned “well, it’s simply Gozer the Destroyer’s will that so many die of preventable causes. He craves suffering and human flesh.” that most media would probably ask, “hey why are all of the death cult folks Gozerites?”

OK, the wording of this just made me realize:

If 49.9% of people vote to keep the governor, but one of the replacement candidates gets a much lower percentage (say, 20%), they still become governor, even though MANY MORE voted to keep Newsom.

Who wrote this recall law!?

Someone has, and I recommend reading the complaint. It's good, clear, cites relevant case law. Interestingly, it frames the process as giving voters who vote to recall the governor 2 votes, while those who vote to retain him get only 1. https://www.politico.com/states/f/?id=0000017b-51b5-d1e7-a1fb-7bfd64c80000

@openlabbott In the cases that are most grating, the empathy is exactly the problem -- namely, the lack of empathy for the submitter. It is really difficult to see a serious issue on which someone has spent an enormous amount of time be summarily closed simply because of lack of activity.

It's too generous to say we "wasted" $2.26 trillion on the wars in Afghanistan.

The reality is, military contractors got rich off of those wars. We didn't just waste that money — we funneled it to the same people whose political donations will fund more pro-war candidates.
