I had the same experience in Texas.

The biggest benefit was smaller class size with the flexibility to delve into topics not necessarily on an approved curriculum.

All kids should have this.

And now I think I've run into a bug because a REST API I'm using doesn't differentiate between create/update so things are accidentally getting updated.

Create and update are different operations! You're not making a "helpful" API if now I have to explicitly work around your API's idiocy.
