My interpretation: the risk of getting Covid is related to your vax status, whether you're taking steps to lower risk (masking, etc), & whether you’re exposed to the virus. Even in highly vaccinated SF, the odds of being exposed have gone up ~ 20-fold since June 1. (12/20)

I think there’s a range of things that make devs feel clever and awesome. It doesn’t always look like “harder” or “more complex”. So there’s room for more things to fit my hypothesis, even if devs are talking about them as “simple” or “easy”.

Maybe. I would state a different hypothesis. Whatever system makes developers feel clever and awesome will make them want to talk about how clever and awesome they are. Systems that are so easy that it doesn’t feel awesome to learn them don’t tend to do as well.

There is an upside to this though. We know that the best user experience also doesn't actually correlate with the greatest business success. Shitty products win all the time. There are a lot of things that come together to create business success. UX is only one.

Just to be clear on what the conversation is. This is a very common sentiment among developers. As a person who has been doing this for 2 decades, I find very little correlation between what developers find good *for them* and good products for users.
