This is, btw, extra true right now. Salaries are ridiculously high, even at startups.

I've been seeing regular smaller companies paying FAANG rates (read: $250k+ in cash) in a desperate attempt to get people to join them.

This is especially true for anyone early in their careers! It's harder to get that 44% bump when you're already near the top of market salaries (although you can still get decent bumps to be significantly above market), but when you're still in the sub-100k to low-100k? JUMP
