For a while I was wondering if the youtube recs engine was really that bad for most people because their suggested videos inoffensive on my main. Looking at the page for my 2nd account that's been fallow for years, they're not *horrible* but it's definitely stinkier
I have 2 youtube accounts linked to the same address because I think an extra one was automatically created when I signed up for g+ or something.

Once we get the option, it's still necessary to choose the right leaders. And we are just as bad at that as any group of humans. There's nothing special about that problem.
@polotek ("Marco Rogers") replied to a tweet by @polotek:
We call for representation because most of the time we didn't even get the *option* to choose people who might understand our lived experiences. Having that understanding represented in the spaces where decisions get made is still critical for anything resembling "progress".

@anorthern @The_Acumen As a collective, we continue to fall for identity/representation politics because the powers that be use it as propaganda to advance their goals. We have to stop thinking that a politician checking all the right identity boxes inherently means that we're making "progress"
