Some brief thoughts:

1. open source actually did a great job. It's forced corporations to release products that are free _and_ libre. Literally forced them (coughdotnetcough)
2. GitHub Sponsors &such are cool, but they favor the wrong folks I think??

But, separately from that, it's helped me get a much more connected picture of open source vs corporations and how, where, and why the money actually flows and BOY do I have feelings about it.

3. I'm not sure we're gonna be able to fix any of this so long as we exist under a wage system where work is required for _survival_?

These are just some rambling thoughts, so take them with a grain of salt. I just kept talking with people, and the same struggles came up over and over, and their projects just kept fitting into the big picture in such similar ways.

I spoke to a bunch of open source maintainers as part of some research I was doing to help NuGet with its open source strategy and holy crap was that helpful and boy do I have a lot of feelings. Wish I could share my findings!
