I was gonna use this as an example of one that got swiftly and permanently memory-holed, but it turns out that Last Night in Soho used it on their soundtrack this year. It sounds completely unhinged https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhVQ3cYFyQ8

Nothing is lost in this change. More importantly, I think it makes the expression more accessible to more people. I still have a preference for one over the other. But I'm grateful to be able to see and understand a natural evolution of language as it happens. It's amazing.

I think the reason it bothers me is that I think the phrase "that resonates with me" is beautiful from a literary perspective. I have always loved it. But when I allowed myself to start hearing and feeling when people say "I resonate with that", it became beautiful to me too.

@polotek ("Marco Rogers") replied to a tweet by @polotek:

"I resonate with that" makes equally as much sense as "that resonates with me". It makes sense literally. It succeeds in conveying the same meaning and the same emotion. Which is super impressive when you think about it.

When I got introduced to the idea that language is continually evolving, that was an important thing for me. It allowed me to own my own hangups rather than externalizing them. And "I resonate with that" is a great example of letting things evolve. Because it makes sense.

@polotek ("Marco Rogers") replied to a tweet by @polotek:

The one I'm struggling with is "I resonate with that". As opposed to "that resonates with me". That's one I find myself working hard not to mention when people say it. But also my relationship with this one is changing.

I'm a person who has some language pet peeves. You know those common sayings that people frequently get "wrong". I'm mature enough to know it doesn't actually matter. I mostly keep quiet and manage my own feelings. But there's one in particular I've been thinking about a lot.

Sammy gets it, the central failure of TNG's premise. This has got to be the writers being like, hey it's season 6 of this show, how does something like this even exist. But I still adore it. It's so aspirational. Maybe we can talk to each other and solve problems.
