So here’s the real question: do I try to write this game (which needs websocket and fancy multi user frontend support) in Elixir/Phoenix (more stuff done out of the box) or do I try doing it in Rust (more hand rolling, but I like Rust more)

I think I’m going to revive the same project I keep trying (and failing) to make and just be chill about it this time.
It’s also literally the project that got me into programming in the first place. Because I wanted to make a MUD of my own.
Anyone down to playtest a MUD? 🤓

I can’t believe I’ve had a twelve year long career because of this.
For context, Clockwork was the ONLY software place I applied to. My only “experience” was fixing people’s computers and that I was usually applying for were GeekSquad-style jobs 🤓 (no one wanted me)

So yeah. Please hire folks like me. Please stop focusing so much on having the ideal candidate straight out the door and hire people with good hearts and some flexibility whose lives you can literally change by giving them their first opportunity. They’ll surprise you.

I can’t emphasize how much of a risk it might’ve seemed to hire some rando who sent them an overly eager cover letter. I had been essentially jobless for like 2 years and living in a room with my then in-laws. I had literally no coding credentials besides some small GitHub stuff

I managed to make it into the industry not because I was some awesome programmer with a CS degree or whatever, but because a couple of folks at @Clockwork_Tweet decided to give me a chance as a QA person with a bit of coding opportunity.
I’m forever grateful. It changed my life.
