People honestly don't realize that when you claim that an industry that is overwhelmingly white and male is a meritocracy, what you're really revealing is that you honestly think that white dudes are just better.
Meritocracy isn't a real thing.

If it were, how do you explain the utter lack of diversity behind the camera? Lack of merit?
