This is a key disconnect. Many white people have decided to define discrimination *only* as what can be proven on the books. They do not acknowledge that people can and do discriminate *despite* the fact that it's no longer legal to do so.

@politichick_ Thanks for the clarity around your interpretation. Just to be clear, you only acknowledge "oppression" in the form of concrete laws and prohibitions? I assume you don't buy the argument that it still happens even though it's not explicit?
