For me the fundamental issue is this. We can only know the magnitude of harm in hindsight. So people can deflect from a direct question about tradeoffs. All they have to do is imagine some hypothetical future thing that is so good it was worth it.

@jmathai If you do nothing today, the harms will happen. You will only be able to reflect on the true magnitude and severity of the harms later. In hindsight after it's already done. Then it will be too late to say "that wasn't worth it". That's the dilemma.
