And then all of the syntax is just the uppermost most superficial layer of a language.
The hard parts that really matter are in semantics of the language. Language semantics affect performance, reliability, and maintainability. Neat tabs or curly brackets don't help if it's hard to properly handle errors, process text without screwing up encoding, or use threads without mangling data.
Argument about how a programming language _looks_ like is the bikesheddest of bikesheds.
Anyone can have an opinion on what punctuation is "ugly" or what they think is "readable".
Rarely anyone understands why a given syntax is necessary, and what are the drawbacks of "prettier" alternatives.
The cost may be in parsing ambiguities, poor syntax errors, or need for implicit behaviors that may backfire.

- Top down photo of three vinyl stickers on a wooden table. One is the CCC keyboard and star design in red and black, one a bust drawing of a person with long hair, shaved side, wearing a mask, two sewing needles crossing behind and a scroll reading "Nähkromancer". The third sticker is circular, showing a starry sky and the head of a white cat with a black crescent moon on their forehead reading "Me, my cat, media.ccc & chill". (remote)

Didn't have any stearine candles but did have paraffine ones, and that worked, as suggested. Now there's only a tiny squeak sometimes instead of a constant awful squeak when it's sliding.

Is stearine still a recommended way to fix squeaky wooden sliding drawers?
I think that's what they said in woodworking class in primary school but that was very long ago because I'm old.
