The hourglass shape is the length of the night changing over the year, and the diagonal bands are the Moon moving across the night sky approximately each month. The Sun's brightness can be seen around 13h local time (brighter in summer). Finally, lots and lots of clouds can be seen modulating the sky brightness during each day. (remote)
