Sometimes it's awkward though, because I'm like, "Can you all not see this?" And the people watching the video are, "What? It seems okay." And I'm just sitting there in disbelief getting increasingly tense... 😆

I don't have a super power, but, holy poop, I cannot stand to walk into a room with a video playing on a screen where the aspect ratio is wrong without trying to fix it.

The answers to those questions are why we must demand true browser choice. Nothing else will do. A short-term surge of effort while regulators are breathing down Cupertino's neck is not an acceptable substitute.

So, when iPeople try to blow smoke up your tailpipe about how awesome Safari is now, understand that it is *critical* to them that you not ask follow-up questions:
Why should we believe you won't abandon the web again?
Why are you still filing lawsuits and funding astro-turf groups to argue against browser choice?
Why did it take regulators asking questions to get into the same ballpark as Mozilla's level of web platform investment?

But we have seen this movie before. Apple has a habit of seconding key engineers to other projects, and has been more than willing to starve the Safari/WebKit teams just as soon as attention shifts away from some long-simmering neglect that has suddenly boiled over.
We should not expect this time to be different until and unless true competition comes to iOS.

Browser choice has the potential to really open up iOS devices, but without the security nightmare that alternate app stores would bring.
From that perspective, it's easy to see why Apple is furiously working to try to make it appear as though their mandated engine isn't so decrepit as to invite regulatory intervention.
This should be understood as a ploy. The surge of effort is only that; it is not a structural commitment to a better engine over the long term.

Consider this in light of Apple's penchant for malicious compliance; they are spending HUGE amounts on lawyers and lobbyists to push back on the *intensely* reasonable demand that people be allowed to chose the browser they want.
Then consider that Apple makes *billions* per year from the web (through Google search deal), while re-investing a pittance on Safari/WebKit.
Nothing about the forced catch-up we're observing is about goodwill or web friendliness.

What's happening with WebKit/Safari is a minor revolution for web development, but the *cause* of that progress is not that Apple suddenly cares about the web. It does not.
No, they're being backed into minimally funding Safari in order to stave off regulation that might otherwise lead to competition. And make no mistake; the are NOT happy about the idea of having to compete:

I can’t find a trailer for Magazine Dreams yet but it sounds good. https://apple.news/A89hEyTvxSRuabEoNKU5cSQ
