Do you ever stop and wonder if frontend would be better today if FB had stuck by their original bullshit license for React, thereby limiting the blast radius?

I recall getting into angry arguments with skeptics who insisted the proper domain of the movement was UFOs, astrology, chupacabras, etc., not that socially relevant stuff. And this is where they are today.

I passed this billboard on the 101 last night, and I don't know that Silicon Valley history has ever repeated such a small detail so crisply: in the 1990s, Informix (RIP!) famously bought the billboard outside of Oracle's headquarters on the 101 and used it to taunt their competitor. Of note: "You just passed Redwood Shores; so did we." And I am dying to know if SingleStore has a 55-year-old VP of Marketing with a sense of history -- or the opposite.

Democracy Docket newsletter:

“Instead of winning cases on the merits, right-wing election lawyers are trying to ensure that pro-voting organizations and voters themselves can’t bring lawsuits in the first place. It’s unclear whether a majority of the current Supreme Court justices would be receptive to such an argument — nonetheless, the conservative legal movement seems to be counting on it.”

‘Steuben… said that the sergeant was the most important soldier in the Army…

Steuben hand-picked 150 to 200 men at Valley Forge to learn his Prussian drill techniques… The trained NCOs then drilled the thousands of other Continental Soldiers camped at Valley Forge throughout the course of four months. This model of efficiency helped lead America to independence and laid the foundation of training that the Army continues to this day.”
