This song's been on my mind the past few days. I only know this particular live version, and so the intro is part of the song for me. Chris Smither's "No Love Today".

Legislation targeting #TikTok specifically sounds very dodgy to me.

Sure TikTok harvests data and can manipulate its users, but so do Facebook and Google.

It's probably impossible to write general legislation that bans unethical data collection that would target only TikTok, but not US tech giants.

Combined with the "solution" to sell ownership, the whole thing sounds like: "spying and manipulation is bad, when it's not US doing it".

And nobody knows everything! It's fine!

But we should all aspire to learn more. Nobody is "done" who feels they've mastered a single layer. Adjacencies contain opportunities.

Suggesting that people develop skills and understand their platforms because it will help them and their teams is not gatekeeping.

Suggesting they do it in parallel is not saying they must do it before or clear an artificial bar.
