I've been carrying this new algorithm in my head for a week now. I'm too anxious to start changing the code, because a) it's pretty complex and b) the thing works now, so it's painful to know it's going to be broken for a while.

I already failed once to start on it a year ago, am I going to work up enough courage this time? It's ridiculous… The project is not high stakes or anything…

@carnage4life I love editing photos to make them look like I want, regardless of what I shot. Every time a new camera or a phone comes out I realize that a small part of my skill in this becomes obsolete, as computational photography learns new tricks. And they are often better than what I can produce with my current tool of choice. But I don't get bummed as I realize the important part of me being in the process is this "knowing what I want", not how I can achieve that.

Looks like that 3D artist is having a hard time disentangling creativity from their proficiency in using a particular tool, a craft in other words. And everyone would, it doesn't invalidate their frustration. Still I think it's important to realize that tools change all the time and sometimes suddenly become obsolete. It's an artist's job to constantly re-learn how to channel their creativity through new tools.
