people hardly ever notice my antennae… even most folks at backyard parties have failed to ‘see’ them

we perceive much more than we notice

What the public doesn't understand is the breadth and depth of the corruption -- in part because not a single journalism organization has even attempted to show sleaze like this in context. Instead, we get one-offs like this (excellent) story.

We get lots of coverage of individual brush fires, but no one shows that the entire forest is ablaze.
