only got to ‘antenna number 1’ yesterday, but found interesting & useful results using my little RigExpert analyzer 🎉

at that geo-location, with those soil conditions, & on 20 meters:

a) whether or not you (garden fabric) nail the radials to the ground makes a big difference (do it)

b) at least 1 radial is needed, having 2 (Y pattern) makes a significantly positive difference, & having 3 (cross) makes only a marginal difference

c) radial length makes a significant difference

The curl web site now features this text:

Alert: if you look up curl CVEs in public sources like NVD you will find they use inflated severity levels and CVSS scores. They think they know better and override our assessments. This is a systemic error that we unfortunately cannot fix. Feel free to complain to them - we keep doing it to no use - and consider using our material as the canonical sources for curl issues.

Like, there's clearly *some* effect. Faster cycle times matter. Faster build boxes are better, etc. etc.

But there's no shared terminology, no metric, and no empirical basis to believe this effect is more powerful than many other effects (better test collateral, safer languages, better product organisation, etc. etc.)

But to hear the proponents sell it, this effect should be visible from space! It should overpower even terrible management...has it? Seems not.

The idea that a focus on developer experience leads to better products has to be the most widely cited, evidence-free shibboleth in modern software.

Where are the papers? The double-blind studies? The meta-analyses?
