Yesterday Jordan Hendricks joined @bcantrill and me to talk about the challenges virtualizing time in the face of virtual machine migration.

Lots of precise mechanics and subtle math... so Jordan wrote a simulator to validate calculations and corner cases.

.. so it with great irony that the raw recording had slewed Jordan's track by ~0.26% (!!) (fixed in the edit)

Following the arrest of three Kosovar officers in Serbia, the US has repeatedly called for their release. But public prosecutors are pushing ahead with charges, further raising tensions.

If you want to help build the Fediverse, you don't have to be a coder or even a tech person. I'm not a tech person, and I'm part of a development team. Good old organizational skills are really needed. Management, marketing, and cost projection experience would be welcome too. Let me know if you'd like to give some time to build out the Fediverse.

The single — the single — reason I still use Thunderbird on my desktop is the ability to not use the obsolete concept of the "Sent" folder. Also, HT to @mekkaokereke for prompting me to go read more about Alamo, Texas, Mexico and all related. I knew Alamo was a historical disgrace rather than the last stand of the will, but I didn't have a broader context about Mexico trying to free slaves and Texas trying to keep them.

Reading about Missouri Compromise of 1820[1].

One thing strikes me is that while it's customary complain about how America is divided these days, there's actually nothing new about it. Along with attempts of people on the wrong side of the history to foist false dichotomy by claiming equal representation in the argument.

"[R]equired California to send one pro-slavery senator to maintain the balance of power in the Senate."

Juneteenth (June 19th) is not a "holiday celebrating when news of the end of slavery finally reached Texas." No. Just no. Y'all make it sound like network latency! Like we were playing Fortnite, and all the Black players were lagging.🤡

Juneteenth is when the racist state of Texas took another very public L. Texas did everything it could to keep slavery going as long as possible. They gave up land to Oklahoma, so they could be below the slavery line. The Alamo was a victory for abolitionists.

How do I find the non-techy side of fedi

Serious question, I'm not a programmer (I *am* interested in tech stuff somewhat and I'm technically a UX designer but yeah) and yet almost everyone I interact with is programmers and usually German

I've been told that other people's feeds look very different from mine but I literally have no idea how to break into that side of fedi 💀
