In lib.rs, when #Rust had only 20K crates, I've used 16-bit counters for stats. I knew it'll eventually outgrow them, so I've used checked arithmetic and made it panic on overflow, "so that I will notice when that happens".Well, it overflowed, and because the stats were used in so many places now, it basically took the site down, at the worst possible moment when I had no time to make a release.
Mastodon FeedI have #thunderbolt3 dock that maybe once per hour just disconnects all USB devices. DisplayPort continues to work, but everything USB stops responding until I reboot the dock. It's not the first dock that does this to me. Any ideas why could it be?

The author goes into subjective territory, and I dislike some of his choices, but I very much agree with the general sentiment of prefering code that's simple, easy, and boring. And #Scala can suffer from Java's boilerplate curse, IMO, due to all the tooling that alleviates the use of complex APIs.
