The thing about this is that it's not actually a method for generating islands, specifically. Just blocks of 19 hex tiles. It's simple enough that bodies of water are actually out of scope!
It's a good reminder that you can still possibly get interesting results even if you drop seemingly essential elements.

I've been looking at a book called "Sandbox Generator" and its terrain generation method cooks down to:
1. Pick a starting terrain (grass, hills most likely)
2. Circle outwards. Half the time, repeat terrain type of the previous hex, otherwise pick a type at uniform random. This is the first one I got. (Map made in Hex Kit with an external tileset called "Tiles of Xark!"; bg color added in Krita)

Materials intended for making tabletop rpg maps are cool to look at with an eye for videogames.
There's always the temptation to go complex/simulationist when generating a map on a computer, but something designed for people to perform manually has to stay grounded and find maybe 1 or 2 little tricks to get an interesting mix of features
Sometimes you just have to harness the anxiety and put it to work for you.

It feels like an extremely nerd thing...and...but also...um...why can't I share a past jetpens order/listing/shopping-cart worth of stuff? Like, a "click here to start the same order" with all identifiable stuff obscured?
Don't even want referral nonsense. Just to share the joy of *extremely good* pens.

When you learn about engineering failures in school you quickly understand that it’s not that people were unintelligent, it’s because they were careless. And good engineering practice builds layers to make sure that carelessness doesn’t propagate.
The rigor of engineering is not the technical complexity of the problem space, it’s everything else around it.
In other words, literally everything the silicon valley grindset devalues.
Niceness. Thanks to the "Translate" button in Mastodon, I can pretend my 9 years of mandatory French (🇨🇦) (+ 1 extra year due to course-picking snafu in high school..) was not a complete waste of time.
Whatever it is they're using, it certainly works well...somehow even sounds like something this person I know (in real life) would say...

In this video a man in a little hat yells "Hello YouTubes" and slams directly into performing an absolutely mindblowing four-minute solo, on a MIDI electric piano VST over FruityLoops beats. (FLStudio/FruityLoops, is IMO, underrated as a serious production music tool.) Ronald, the musician, was an early vlogger who had a whole thing going on and this was the track of his that went most widely viral. It slaps
