Reviewers described it as a kind of roguelike, which sounded cool! But I kept rolling samey encounters with high headcounts that took forever to resolve. And like I said before, there's no creative component that really requires this to be a tabletop game.
So I guess I COULD automate some of it, but it hasn't been good enough to inspire that kind of devotion

yeah I'm just not having a good time with Alone Against Fear. I just got an encounter where I was attacked by ***3D6*** zombies, and the chance, even if it's just 1/216, that I might have to manually roll attacks for a total of 19 different characters was nearly enough to make me close the pdf.

Morale is, predictably, quite poor, and there is no sense of unit cohesion. These are militarily death sentences for a unit and its soldiers. Unit cohesion is crucial - soldiers fight for their friends beside them, if they have any. With no unit cohesion, they won't fight as well, if they fight at all.
Basically, Putin's government got the army it deserved, one just as corrupt and useless as it is.

ok so that Sandbox Generator book led me into the world of solo tabletop rpgs.
I tried playing Alone Against Fear yesterday but I'm not sure if I'm gonna finish the first mission. Despite being a tabletop game, it's very table-based in a way that lends itself to automation. Early on I ran into a group of 9 zombies and then a group of 6 possessed humans and as I sat there doing dozens of "dodge" rolls I kept thinking this could have been a twine game
