After a bit of bickering, the main character, also an otter, breaks the tension by suddenly diving into the lake, possibly for the first time since the incident. The others follow and things are good until the otter decides to rest briefly at the bottom of the lake, where he suddenly finds himself mysteriously paralyzed until he loses consciousness.

He survives, but whatever was responsible missed the chance to do the funniest thing possible there

Summary if you haven't played: Echo is about a group of early 20-somethings reuniting during spring break in their awful little desert town.

They're all permanently fucked up because 10 years ago one of them, an otter, drowned under mysterious circumstances. On Friday, they get together at the lake where it happened in an attempt to reach closure.

Oceania is defined as in https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oceania - it is not a continent, but instead a geographic region consisting primarily of Australia and New Zealand. I had to collapse those into one to avoid needing more than 8 options.

I know the fact that the Windows lock screen tries to clickbait you into clicking their little descriptive tags on whatever picture isn't that big of a deal, but it just infuriates me because it speaks to everything that is wrong about modern Windows.

In modern Windows, you're stuck in this adversarial relationship with your own OS. It's trying to get you to use a browser you don't want, or services you don't want, or send data you don't want to send to people you don't want to have it. It's never respecting your consent; the button is never "No", it's always "Maybe Later". Everything is built to make you do what they want, not what YOU want.

Even if you don't use Linux every day on your desktop (I still don't, for complicated reasons), it's hard to imagine not at least rooting for them. I want Linux to do better and better every year, and it *is*, and that delights me. Apps "just work" more and more often, and gaming is way, way better. Honestly, thank goodness it exists, for so many reasons.

Oh, then suffer.

Problem 3: explicit return not required

this is such A Very Bad Idea. just as an explicit guard should be checked at either the beginning or the end of every iteration control structure, so an explicit return should be required for any function which returns anything.

} until (condition);

or

do {

I think the #Rust programming language is a huge leap forward… one of my failures at RIT was in trying to get the language into the curriculum. and, like anything else, it has some less-than-optimal stuff going on. luckily, it looks to me that, by sticking to well structured approaches to design and coding, I can notice and avoid most of the pitfalls and produce clean, readable, maintainable, and bullet-proof code.

Problem 1: trailing test iteration not directly supported

yes, I can fake it using “break”… but to paraphrase another: “use of break considered harmful”. long and harsh lessons have taught me that there should always be just one way in and one way out of any chunk of programming. in addition, harsh lessons have taught me that all iterators should require a guard condition at the beginning or the end.

Problem 2: infinite loop directly supported

think about it… no guard condition required.

first, some notes on #Rust weirdnesses and goodnesses. I’ve been hacking away at code for a half century now, and some things in the language go against basic programming principles or “rules of thumb” which I have learned, usually “the hard way”, make a lot of sense when writing code.
