my brother died 6 years ago, today. RIP Maj. Larry Sonstein, VMI ‘66. served 2 tours in Viet-Nam, first as an artillery officer with the 4th Infantry Division & then with MACV as an advisor.

loving big brother, father, and grandfather, I miss his smile still. I’ll light a candle tonight, and say a prayer.

Mocking Google for their totally-not-an-attempt-to-DRM-the-Web is the right thing to do.

Open issues on the proposal repo and let them know what you think.

Politely.

But, don't be fooled. Even if they take this back, it doesn't change how they think. This is their intention. They just failed to slip it by this time.

The answer is to take power away from Google. Stop using their stuff. Build alternatives. It's not easy, but it's the only way.

And mock them. That's always fun.

It's the anniversary of The Moon landing! (Apollo 11 specifically)

Did you know that NASA still has scientists studying the rocks that were collected on The Moon?

It's because they set some aside to wait for technology to catch up with our curiosity.

We are still learning about The Moon to this day thanks to all the people that worked on the Apollo missions.

While I'm happy that @leaverou's proposal about the ability to style the native `title` tooltip is moving forward in CSSWG (yay!), I think there was one thing that was not discussed enough — #accessibility of those tooltips (or absence of it).

I wrote a quick comment about this at the corresponding issue: https://github.com/w3c/csswg-drafts/issues/8930#issuecomment-1644631295 — but I am not an accessibility expert, far from it, so I would welcome anyone who actually knows what they're doing to comment over at this issue.

oh Lord, Phil Karlton was indeed an optimist… (from “5.3 Method Syntax”):

“The &self is actually short for self: &Self. Within an impl block, the type Self is an alias for the type that the impl block is for.
