Just saw someone advocating progressive movements organize on the Fediverse.

BE VERY VERY CAREFUL ABOUT SAYING STUFF LIKE THIS.

-Most fediverse tie-ins are not architected to protect you. For instance, Mastodon Direct Messages are not encrypted and admins can access them.

-Most instances are hosted by ordinary people who don't have the time, knowledge, or resources to fight subpoenas in either criminal or civil actions.

Meet here. Support each other. Cheer each other on. Show solidarity, and elevate and amplify each other.

Organize in much more restricted environments, like end-to-end encrypted messengers like Signal.

The above post is getting some attention, so I'm gonna add some homework for extra points.

Ten years ago, @kjhealy wrote an excellent post on using metadata and social network analysis to identify Paul Revere from the perspective of royal authorities. Didn't even involve message content; again, metadata.

Highly recommended reading.

Exactly 14 years ago today—on July 24, 2009—the minimum wage was set at $7.25 while top 1% were worth $5T. Today, billionaire wealth is $45T+, meanwhile the min wage is still $7.25.

This is what generational wage theft looks like. Pay workers. Tax billionaires. #RaiseTheWage

It's taken a few days, but let's get stuck into another favourite of this listener for #DailyJazz: Blue Train.

Easily one of Coltrane's best, this is jazz at some of its finest and there's even a remaster on #AppleMusic in #DolbyAtmos giving you a new sound.

While the title track is easily the stand out, the rest of the album is just as brilliant making this a must-listen, whether you have before or haven't ever. This is brilliant jazz.

I'd also suggest finding a backup plan for your use of Gmail, Gdocs, etc. because even if other vendors refuse to play along, Google will use their sites to show "oops, sorry, your fake browser is not supported, download the true Chrome here".

And it's not like we would generally go over their nominal cap by much, but again, and I cannot stress this enough, *this is how I work*.

I'll be the first to point out that these are obscene numbers from many perspectives, and I can afford to pay more, but that's not the point: I literally *can't* pay anyone more for better service. SF is a service desert in large sections...because regulatory capture. SF city govt is incompetent and unperturbed that fiber isn't widely available.

Comcast introduced an "unlimited" tier, at least allowing us to pay for the privilege of not having to worry if we got near 1TB of transfer/mo. This was not great; abysmal compared to symmetric fiber, but at least could hook up a competent modem and router, rather than dealing with their jank-o-rama.

In the last month, this changed. Now, if you don't pay Comcast an *exorbitant* price ($15/month) for a truly shit-tier modem/router combo, you can't even pay more to stay uncapped.

Why does the US need competition regulators? A vignette: I'm a work-from-home-er and have been at least part-time for many years. These days, it's full time. My network connection is my ability to function.

I'm also in San Francisco, a connection desert.

After screwing us over (promising to install symmetric 2gbps fiber in 2017, then bailing), we've been stuck with Comcast cable service, capped at ~40mbps up, ~1gbps down. This is not great, particularly for the price.
