he wants to claim defamation is covered under the 1st Amendment & appeal up to the Supreme Court to delay delay delay…

‘In a two-page declaration, Mr. Giuliani acknowledged that he had in fact made the statements about Ms. Freeman and Ms. Moss that led to the filing of the suit and that the remarks “carry meaning that is defamatory per se.” He also admitted that his statements were “actionable” and “false” and that he no longer disputed the “factual elements of liability” the election workers had raised in their suit.

But Mr. Giuliani, insisting that he still had “legal defenses” in the case, said that he continued to believe his accusations about Ms. Freeman and Ms. Moss were “constitutionally protected” under the First Amendment. He also refused to acknowledge that his statements had caused the women any damage — a key element required to collect a judgment in a defamation case.’

I've been looking a bit at #Lemmy, the fediverse reddit.

Once set up, with subscriptions to multiple communities, filtered views, a better skin, I can see it could work.

But it sucks at making a good first impression. Color scheme of a ransom note. Fits only 5 posts on the screen, four of which are dare to upvote a can of beans.

Humanities departments at sub-elite universities are treated as sprinkles to begin with. None of the powerful careers our students pursue means anything. None of the research we publish means anything. We're not the cake. We're there to make the cake look real, appealing, scrumptious. So no wonder that we also are often the only departments that hire marginalized faculty, whose resistance to being decorative, in a department that is comfortable being merely decorative, finds no traction.

Never really "understood" people who eat well done steak, until today.

Decided to try a sous vide recipe for chicken breast. Went with 60°C for 3 hrs, which is well past the pasteurisation point and recommended on a few sites as being super juicy.

Found it _way_ too different from my normal "cook it to death" standard for chicken. TOO juicy, flesh was not "stringy" enough. Had to cook it dry by searing separately before I could finish it.

A #superconductor that works at room-temperature and ambient pressure could be producing major leaps in so many areas of engineering.

Among many other applications that I'm looking forward reading about, this might lower the conditions required to maintain coherence of large-scale #quantum computers.

John Eastman sounds worried. Apparently he's writing a letter to DOJ Special Counsel explaining that there was no crime in writing his memo. (There very well could be a crime, yup.)

He's making a big deal of the fact that he didn't get a target letter, but there is no rule that targets have to get letters.

Lots of people get indicted without target letters.

Does anyone want a refresher about the Eastman Memo? I wrote up some analysis for the Washington Post on that a few years ago . . .
