Meta’s Threads app looks set for an uphill climb if it’s ever to take the microblogging crown.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg told employees that despite its impressive start in early July when around 100 million people activated a Threads account in its first five days of availability, more than half of those users have stopped checking in.

📡 for those of you who are just tuning in

GBH News is a PBS/NPR newsroom in Boston, Massachusetts.

We start each day with a greeting, the weather, a news brief, and a poll.

It surprises me when we get people who say they think this is the full output of our newsroom, but of course it is not. We simply care enough about the #fediverse to engage here.

If you want livestreams/video, see here: https://www.youtube.com/c/gbhnews

If you want to do a deep dive, visit our website: https://www.wgbh.org/news/

with apologies to Phil Karlton...

there are only two hard problems in programming: naming things, cache invalidation, and off-by-one errors

judicious use of of 'Option' with 'match Some/None' seems like a path to avoiding a lot of common programming errors

looking at the vec! macro reminds me that hiding the details can be a two-edged sword... stylistically, I think I prefer

'let mut v: Vec = Vec::new();'

over

'let mut v = Vec::new();'

so the person scanning my code can see what is going on better... different styles for different folks #LearningRust

The Times is right — e-bikes are a scourge and we must do everything we can to protect our fragile SUV-driving elites from these teen terrors. I propose we construct a nationwide network of separated e-bike enclosures to segregate these monsters from god-fearing motorists.

I’ve attached one such example from a European petrostate that has spent years valiantly protecting cars from the ravages of cycling. With work, we may be able to reduce the number of cyclist-on-motorist deaths to zero.
