Now I have to think, I'm writing a JS function to calculate/fetch a result based on some input. If my fn color is REACT_STATE, now I need to account for the fact that I might be passed dummy values that haven't even been initialized yet, and wait for a *second* (or more) call to actually do work. 🤮

At work recently I had to work with React, and maaaaan things are needlessly crufty in that world!
I can just use async/await in vanilla JS in Svelte/Preact and update a store/signal. In react, useState() infects the whole call path! 🤯

Being in the non-mainstream Vue/Nuxt and Web Components camp, my opinions are obvious. I'm not sharing this to rattle sabers, but because I think Josh makes a great point that the weird/hard stuff in React simply aren't problems in other (modern) frameworks.

For #modemmonday let me show you a few Gandalf LDS 120 modems. These short-haul modems were originally designed to connect remote terminals to computers up to a few miles away over four-conductor wire. This was popular in office and university campuses back when computers were gigantic and kept in their own rooms. Essentially you can use two of these and some wire as a really long serial cable!
Gandalf operated from 1971 until 1997.
