I did not buy it to be a gaming laptop, though. That's a big factor in my happiness with it. Putting linux on there didn't require me to sacrifice a bunch of windows exclusives that it could otherwise play.

It can comfortably handle renpy/twine/2d zachtronics titles/solitaire but youtube makes it run a bit hot. It can do it, but it's happier if you put it on a lapdesk or other solid surface first

A few months ago I finally got a new laptop and the OEM windows install was like "sign in to your actual locally hosted operating system with your fucking microsoft account" and instead I just blanked the HD and put Linux Mint Cinnamon on it instead.

And it's been a delight! I was expecting the track pad or the sound to be unreliable but it actually works slightly better than on my desktop. I visit my websites and play my gay little visual novels or kde solitaire and have a ball

I think I'm basically the ideal end user for linux desktops. Everyone I follow who is better at computers than me has an absolutely miserable time doing whatever god forsaken things they do with their linux installs, everyone less computery than me just uses windows.

I only have problems when I try to fly too close to the sun by installing an exotic tiling window manager or something

I’d love to get recommendations for open roles for a mid iOS developer position!

Sharing for visibility would be much appreciated.

One-click "restore my PWAs" on a new device after logging into your browser *is not too much to ask*. Long past time, in fact. We're blocked in this on Android because Google won't share access to the WebAPK Minting Service, and on iOS because...well... [ gestures expansively ]

This should be table stakes for modern browsers in 2023.

Something like a good 5% of my job is giving people tours of what WebPageTest.org (and our internal version for MSFT) can do.

If you're working on the web, it's worth your time trying to decipher what WPT is trying to show you. I recommend starting with a site you own and can edit, using the "simple" mobile config, and focusing on the flimstrip section (initially). Learning where the time goes is invaluable.

It's kind of incredible – and sad – that PWAs don't restore on your device when you install Chrome fresh and turn on sync. Not even a prompt to offer it. Still.

Starting with version 116, #Firefox will drop support for macOS versions prior to 10.15 as well as Windows 7, 8 and 8.1. This has understandably annoyed a few users so let me explain why we're taking this step: the maintenance burden of supporting several versions of each platform is very significant. I'll show you how much by citing three platform-specific bugs I've worked on over the past two years. 🧵 1/13
