This writeup on Rewriting wipEout from the original leaked source code is a great read. Lots of great bon mots sprinkled in like “I’m not sure what the original PSX version did, but the PC version had a lot of
malloc()and little fewerfree()calls scattered around.”Oh yeah, it compiles to WASM and is playable in your browser now: https://phoboslab.org/wipegame/
(I’m getting about 3000 fps in my browser w/ an iGPU)

I have this script that runs daily on a VPS, and whenever I make changes to it I'd do them locally, commit to GitHub, ssh to that box, and pull the latest. Kind of annoying!
Just rigged it up so on each push a Github Actions runner spins up an ephemeral Tailscale node, sshes through that into my VPS, and pulls from there. It rules

Several years in the making, GitLab is now very actively implementing #ActivityPub! 🙌

The end-goal is to support AP for merge requests (aka pull requests), meaning git.alice.dev can send a merge request to gitlab.com/Bob/project.git
First bite-sized todo on the implementation path there is ‘subscribe to project releases’.
Smart move by #GitLab; through ActivityPub they’re getting a distributed version of GitHub’s social layer.

@mcdanlj @trevorflowers I’m fortunate enough to have worked as a machinist in addition to being an engineer. When I was in grad school, I had to train senior design students on how to use the department machine shop so they could make their prototypes. When you make the parts you design, it changes your perspective on so many aspects of design. I fear a lot of engineers never get that opportunity.

We do ask for a lot for what is an entry level position, for sure more than in traditional law faculties at the same level. But the career progression opportunities are significantly better than in said law faculties. We're also a supportive, small team and care about each other 💚

This is the first recorded incident of a widespread breeding failure of emperor penguins that is clearly linked with large-scale contractions in sea ice extent."
