and finally, let's not forget who's below:

the library developer.
the compiler writer.
the operating system developer.

Here’s the hidden truth of education:

You don’t know what you’re preparing for.

Your teacher doesn’t know. Your school doesn’t know. Your future employer doesn’t know. Nobody knows. Not really.

Much of what you’re preparing for doesn’t even exist yet. We •hope• it doesn’t exist yet: don’t we educate students in the hope that they will make the world better by changing it? By creating realities that don’t even exist yet?

@tante Predictably, everybody in the replies here is immediately arguing about license terms. I really wish we could move past that, acknowledge that the "four freedoms" framework from GNU is pretty good *in the narrow, specific context of licensing*, but a disastrously incomplete vision of a social movement. You can't hack your user's brains into being better people by using license terms and I wish we'd stop trying.

Republicans give $101m to sports arena as myriad needs loom over Louisiana | US news | The Guardian

“Robert Mann – an LSU professor, author, and political historian who frequently criticizes Louisiana’s government – said that school officials and advocates have spent years pleading for a new library. Despite those pleas, lawmakers allotted only a few million in project planning for a new library.

However, lawmakers quickly delivered on Mulkey’s request for arena improvements, even though the university itself did not ask for PMAC funding.”
