I really enjoyed the message of #Stoicism in this banger: Let others classify you however they want, because their bindings slide right off you, and can't stop you from being your best self, on your own terms. (Also: Space.) https://youtu.be/EuRjmzz6qL0?si=gB_WNEzdgl6jnWkA

I didn’t realize how valuable domains can be to small countries. Anguilla, which owns .ai, gets a third of its government’s monthly budget from domain sales. Tuvalu, which owns .tv, could make $10 million a year from the domain, allowing it to pave its roads and expand electricity access.

Saying 'probly' instead of 'probably' is sometimes frowned upon, but the word 'probably' itself was shortened from 'probablely' (two L's!) by the same process.
This process is called haplology. One of two consecutive similar syllables is deleted:

-ba-blyMore examples:

Some people look at the "mobile platform" (phones with a touch screen for an interface) and see it is unproductive for most things and try to change it.
I see the "mobile platform" is unproductive and try not use it for things it's not suitable for (and get irritated when I'm forced to use some bullshit mobile "app" or website).

I get efforts to reduce password sharing, but it would be cool if they'd, like, look at the account and see that there's one device that's been authorized and not just run a 'select * from members where password older than 3 months' or whatever similar thing they do. Bah.

I've really been enjoying the efforts to prevent password sharing by some of these streaming services where every few months they deauth everything and forget my password. Very cool and not the least bit frustrating for me as I'm not even the one that watches these things, but I'm the one that gets to go around resetting passwords and logging into everything.

Great news! Thanks to a lot of hard work from topcat001 (Anindya Mukherjee), the -portable version of tmux now has SIXEL support.
Why this is this cool? Well, it means images rendered directly into the terminal can now happen, via conversion to SIXEL where appropriate.
One such use-case is with #gnuplot.
As an example of both, see the screenshots I've attached here.
To enable this, you will need to pass a flag to configure:
./configure --enable-sixel
Please do give this a go. This isn't released yet, so if you want to try this, you must do so via git.
Note that you will need a compatible terminal to make use of this -- in my case, that's #xterm and as such, all I needed to do was add the following to my ~/.Xdefaults file:
XTerm.*.decTerminalID: vt340
XTerm.*.numColorRegisters: 256... and then run `xrdb -merge ~/.Xdefaults`
Enjoy!

If you enjoy #baldursgate3 you may like to hear that the previous game by #Larian is currently 65% off in the 15-year-anniversary sale at #GOG: https://www.gog.com/en/game/divinity_original_sin_2
That’s the #game in which they perfected the storywriting and all the mechanics except for the D&D rules and convinced WotC/Hasbro that they are a good match for the next Baldurs Gate.

I've been looking at the stage selection screens of the NES Megaman games. It looks like Megaman 3 uses a combo of bg tiles and static sprites to increase the number of colors available. They draw their helmets and the whites of their eyes with bg tiles and then use sprites for the faces or sometimes just additional shading

My mom had been joking about getting the gate, and didn't expect me to do anything. But apparently I was too... literal and naive or something...
Anyway, I think we both learned a valuable lesson that day. My mom not to joke about such things, and me to not act so swiftly or trustingly when people make requests (even those people you trust the most). 😆

And for some reason I just did it? Opened the door and dropped straight out the side of the vehicle and tumbled in the gravely ditch on the side of the road next to the truck (the ditch probably helped keep me clear of the truck).
I scared my mom to death, and it shook me up too. But I wasn't hurt accept for some scrapes on my back.

When I was 12 my mother was driving us back home in the truck we had at the time. There was a gate across the driveway to the property (we had a 1 acre property on the wrong side of the tracks). Our normal routine was to stop the vehicle and somebody not driving would get the gate. This time my mom asked me to get out and get the gate... while we were still driving up the road to our lot...

Feels good to update an article from early 2021 to say that the problem described back then is nowadays solved by a single CSS pseudo selector.
Selector in case: `:user-invalid`. It represents any validated form element whose value isn’t valid based on their validation constraints, **after the user has interacted with it.**
Supported by Firefox 88 and Safari 16.5 before, and now also by Chrome 119 (current Chrome Dev, to hit stable in October)
