I have an announcement about a virtual talk from the #IEEE San Diego Section called "Design and Application of Discrete-Time Chaotic Systems"

This speaker is great! This is a follow up from a presentation earlier this year.

It's a real thrill to see the evolution of ideas between researchers and interested audiences.

Sign up to attend this event below:

https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/375332

Here's a headstart on the #abstract

This talk will focus on design and application of discrete-time #chaotic systems. It will cover both #digital and #analog implementations of such systems and outline their respective advantages for several applications. The goal is to introduce chaos theory, widely considered as one of the monumental scientific findings of the last century and then shed light on the possible opportunities and challenges for its widespread adoption in diverse engineering applications specially in the field of #cybersecurity.

PSA if you got an email from Patreon today about updates to their privacy policy, don’t just delete it like you normally would.

It’s actually advising you that in two weeks you will be automatically opted-in to a new public profile feature for everything you fund.

No, I don’t know why anyone at Patreon thought this was a good idea.

This is the reality of a boiling planet.

We are on track to overshoot our #EUGreenDeal goal to cut our greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030.

But we need to speed up the global clean energy transition if we want to limit the temperature rise to 1.5℃.

#COP28 will be our opportunity to do so.

Feels good to update an article from early 2021 to say that the problem described back then is nowadays solved by a single CSS pseudo selector.

Selector in case: `:user-invalid`. It represents any validated form element whose value isn’t valid based on their validation constraints, **after the user has interacted with it.**

Supported by Firefox 88 and Safari 16.5 before, and now also by Chrome 119 (current Chrome Dev, to hit stable in October)

I theorize Tailwind fanatics seem louder and more numerous than they are because many frontend developers either have never used it, aren't interested in it, and/or gave up on it.

It's pure anecdote, but the overwhelming majority of frontend devs I know have no interest in Tailwind. So they can't, and don't, participate in the discourse at all.

So yes, one side is loud. But it might seem more that way than it really is because the other side just isn't even interested.

If I can sustain the patience to generate around 1 token per second, I can run a 70B parameter local LLM on my "gaming" laptop - the one that I got upgraded to 64GB of RAM a few months back _precisely_ so I could run these large models comfortably.

It's not as fast as GPT-4 - but then it doesn't require an aircraft hanger of servers and huge amounts of cooling. Using the sheep-duck-llama model it's getting close to as accurate on the benchmarks. And my prompts & completions never leave home.

‘Professor Pape, of the University of Chicago, said that while the numbers of people who felt violence was justified to support Mr. Trump were concerning, he would rather focus on a different group identified in his survey: the 80 percent of American adults who said they supported a bipartisan effort to reduce the possibility of political violence.

“This indicates a vast, if untapped, potential to mobilize widespread opposition to political violence against democratic institutions,” he said, “and to unify Americans around the commitment to a peaceful democracy.”’
