I've been talking about how AI will directly lead to an Idiocracy (2006) scenario for some time, but today's update to the "can you melt eggs?" saga is as clear an illustration of how as I think it's possible to ever have.

Quora's AI answers made up the melting point of eggs, and then Google picked it up and responded affirmatively that you can indeed melt eggs.

Then people wrote articles about how stupid it is that Google says eggs can melt. Then Google fixes the answer.

Then Google ingests an article about how stupid it is that Google says you can melt eggs, and suddenly Google starts answering affirmatively again that you can melt eggs, citing the article about how stupid Google is for thinking you can melt eggs.

The net result of the largest peaceful protest in US history, is that elected officials, including Dems:

* addressed absolutely none of the structural problems being protested
* increased funding for the police. Increased! Over and above what the police even asked for

So yeah, Black folk get touchy when it's suggested that we don't protest as hard as people in Europe do. We do. And we do it peacefully. And we get killed for it. And nothing changes.

We Sold Our Beloved Company to the Literal Devil

Hello everyone! We’d love to tell you about our charming company history. Then, we’ll briefly mention that the literal devil acquired our company that we know you all love. Don’t worry, we’ll still be running the show, even though the literal devil owns the majority stake now. Not much will change, because the literal devil promised us. He has a track record of keeping his promises (🤞😈), so don’t worry.

One of the most frustrating parts about doing effective ecosystem work is that most answers aren't found in fixed designs, instead they involve spaces of opportunity with change over time.

This melts the brains of many engineers and PMs who just want "the answer" rather than "the next most impactful thing", which might change existing behaviour.

Factoring time into decision making is incredibly hard for most folks.

Turns out when you click the "place order" button on Instacart, it pops up a modal to try to sell you on Plus.

As if that wasn't skeezy enough, *clicking the "x" button to close the modal stops you from checking out*.

I know it's obnoxious, but one of the things I miss about Twitter is being able to publicly call out companies for doing dark anti-pattern shit like this.

I (once again) forgot to announce on social media that I'll be attending BlinkOn 18, on October 17-19, and that I'll be giving *two* talks there:

- a lighting talk with updates on my work implementing line-clamp in Chromium
- and a breakout talk / session about how to integrate the TC39 AsyncContext proposal (similar to Node.js's AsyncLocalStorage, or zone.js) together with web APIs, and with the task attribution effort the Chrome team has been doing.
