Seems pretty apparent what the actual issue here is.

Look I get you want to write your software in C, and it's also understandable that it needs networking support and other modern features, but can we please stop putting all this stuff into one underpowered, underresourced microcontroller with a big loop of nested state machines and no memory protection just because that's what you're used to? Please? 🥺 It doesn't have to be Linux. I'm cool with an RTOS. C'mon, pal. We can do better. 🙏

It might be the exposed core of a protoplanet that was destroyed billions of years ago. But we won't know for sure until we get there.

This is the first explanation for the Hamas attacks I’ve read that offers a believable explanation of why they and their sponsors would start down this path.

If The Atlantic can figure this out, the diplomats in every relevant country have also figured this out. We can only hope that everyone is smart enough to make the best choices possible - it’s not too late to avoid restarting the same depressing and violent cycle we’ve seen for decades.

watch the sequence, listen to the civilians on both sides beg for a route to peace, and remember that a cease-fire requires both parties to cooperate.

now think about a raid plan aimed at killing or taking hostage as many civilians of a particular religion as possible, and a "now what?" after action defense plan that uses hostage and "friendly" civilians as shields.

the theory was that the burdens of actually governing Gaza would help Hamas mature to the point of being amenable to negotiations. this theory has proven to be absolutely wrong.

let's say i wanted to use verilog to write a controller for some oldschool DRAM (EDO SIMMs specifically) for Reasons

let's also say i wanted some sort of verification model i can use in a testbench that will verify all my timings and throw an assertion if i violate any of a huge table of datasheet timing rules

does anyone have any good resources for how to actually approach this? I see a lot of really deep like journal article type things on verification technologies and not much else. how do people do this in a practical setting?

okay, I am Not A Good Person... that television news shot was amusing to this old soldier:

- scene: CNN reporter standing in front of a dirt road in dry, flat terrain while talking into the mic about how they are beginning to see the movement of armor...

- shot: a tank rolls by on the dirt road behind, covering the reporter in a cloud of dirt, filling their mouth and eyes with dirt, & the reporter vanishes in a cloud of dirt with a grimace on their face... and that grimace seems to fade into the dust cloud like the Cheshire Cat's face

The Gila Monster is a desert dweller ironically named after the Gila river, where it is a common sight. It is the only venomous lizard native to the United States and the largest lizard north of the Mexican border, growing to about 22" in total length. Rather than injecting venom through hollow fangs like many snakes, it has enlarged, grooved teeth in its lower jaw that chew the venom in through capillary action. It can live for several years on the fat stored in its tail, but can't detach and regrow it like other lizards do.
