Honorable mention to web components and PWAs here, too.
Everything in web development is exponentially better than it was at the end of the last decade...except the framework we've put at the center of it all.

Hey, next Wednesday I'll be at NodeConf EU, giving a talk together with @nic about the history of server-side Javascript runtimes, and contrasting past standardization efforts like CommonJS with newer, web-interoperable ones like WinterCG which might shape the future of JS in the server-side.

I think the reason React attracts so much derision is: it's the only part of the stack that's lagging behind.
JS is way better. CSS is almost unrecognizably great. Browsers are the best they've ever been. Build tools are a massive generational leap ahead.
But React, still the de facto industry standard, is just sitting there, mostly the same as it's been since the late 2010s; before ESM imports were standardized, before Grid was stable, before IE died off, before anyone ever heard of Vite.

The word "excellent" is derived from the Christian practice of giving up the use of Microsoft Excel for 40 days to commemorate Christ's sacrifice.
It is a period of great productivity.
The date of lent is calculated by using an obscure Excel macro on a field that didn't originally have anything to do with dates, but Excel converted it to one anyway.
