One day you're young and the next day you have a daughter who likes "Wake me up when September ends" and you're curing your own bacon because she wants to try the North American fatty crispy bacon and they don't have that in Japan.

Is this just... evil? https://numpy.org/doc/stable/reference/generated/numpy.reshape.html
Specifically the part that says: " This will be a new view object if possible; otherwise, it will be a copy. Note there is no guarantee of the memory layout (C- or Fortran- contiguous) of the returned array."
Why in the hell would you return a view in some cases but a copy in others? That means mutability semantics aren't a big deal if it copies, but a big no-no if you get a view "for efficiency."
I can see this kind of semantic easily becoming a footgun embedded in a script somewhere. This is hardly something you'd think twice about!

Exceptional October temperatures!
The anomaly for October 2023 (departure from average temperatures) is
the second largest anomaly (after September 2023)
of any month
of any year
in the ERA dataset (back to 1940)
and combining with IPCC data - the warmest October for over 125,000 years (AR6 WG1: Fig2_11)
October 2023 was around 1.7ºC above the preindustrial average, making it virtually certain that 2023 will be the warmest year on record

Librarian’s remark after Göteborg Main Library was accidentally left unlocked at Halloween and 400 people wandered in. ‘People sat reading newspapers. There were families in the children's section and people looking books up in the database. 200 books were borrowed and nothing was damaged.’
Thanks to @mrsostberg for sharing this. Am sharing in English as it’s so nice.

They have apparently lost the RAN stack on mobile on all masts which is not a good sign. They’ve also lost fixed line and IP services.

I'm starting to understand more clearly that part of a senior dev's moral and ethical obligation is to speak up about overcomplications, dangerous assumptions, narrow thinking, and overwork. Basically to use our own history as a cautionary tale.
Our role in this very excitable industry is encouraging our teammates to stop and breathe for a sec. Nothing to do with knowing the code. It's about knowing the pain points and the hazards.

Ohio, thankfully on the right side of history tonight, passing issues 1 and 2, which protect the right to abortion in the state constitution, and legalize marijuana, respectively.

Next July, I'll be helping these people put on a really nice event.
A lot of us have left amateur radio, but haven't forgotten what amateur radio was supposed to be about. All of us - and a growing number of organizers and leaders - are thinking much broader and much more inclusive, picking up #opensource teams, industry groups, and authentically and kindly serving people that legacy and traditional organizations have forgotten, hate on, or outright exclude.
On the "naughty list" are #ARDC, #ARRL, and #AMSAT. Odd how they all start with the letter "A".

#ESQL is very much welcome and is a multi-year effort in #Elasticsearch. This is NOT just a simple translation layer to QuerDSL.
