@sovtechfund (funded by the German government) just announced a €1M grant towards the @gnome project, an open source desktop environment.

Imagine a world in which governments don't spend billions of dollars in licensing fees every year to make Microsoft richer, and that money instead goes towards _public code_ that belongs to all of us.

That may seem utterly implausible - but every example like this brings us one step closer to it being inevitable.

I'm unable to confirm the rails were blown up, but it is known that Russia has been having a real problem with its rail stock falling apart, due to lack of Western assistance with parts and maintenance.

They need the right parts, basically... and those parts need to be made with extremely high quality, high tolerance steel ball bearings. If rail stock isn't well maintained, moving parts can lock up unexpectedly, leading to derailment and damage.

Last weekend, an auction held at his Florida home saw the item, described as "a one of a kind Trump Glock from the 45th President of the United States Donald J. Pictures circulating on social media show the gun being presented at the auction, with news website Meidas Touch saying that bidding for the item began at $10,000.

Just registered for my 8th Marine Corps Marathon. I'll put on a few pounds this winter and do some cross training, AKA non #running things. (Also need less focus on "work" and more on a personal life)

Happy Veterans Day. Take care of yourselves. And go Army

Question specifically for neurodivergent women, especially those with ADHD:

I have an adult friend going through significant stress right now, and one of the main problems presenting itself is that she forgets to eat. Completely forgets, and then gets malnourished and feels even worse.

Once she remembers to eat, or when she sets reminders to try and schedule it better/regularize it, she can't find anything appetizing, no matter what's available.

Specific to neurodivergent women (especially those with ADHD, and specifically women since neurodivergence often manifests differently in women over time): has this happened to you? or similar? do you have any hack or solution or other thing to suggest here?

Thanks in advance.

This post is essential reading re: the DMA and tech giant oligopolistic tactics, but it misses a further wrinkle: many of the practices the DMA regulates may be discontinued in Europe, but Apple/Google/etc. have already shown that they will try to geographically ring-fence compliance so that the rest of the world doesn't benefit from them:

Did you know that New Zealand and other land masses in the south-west Pacific are home to LEAF-VEINED SLUGS?

Unlike their omnivorous European relatives, these slugs eat only fungi. They breathe mainly through the skin of the back, which is kept moist by secretions passing along the many grooves.

I think they're utterly amazing, and apparently so do mesostigmatid mites (look at that mite party by the green slug)!
