In a victory for consumers and developers, London's Court of Appeal has ruled against Apple and in favour of the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), allowing the CMA to reopen their Browser and Cloud Gaming Market Investigation Reference.

Amazing news out of the UK!
@owa has the details, but TL;DR: Apple's attempts to block iOS browser competition on hilariously thin grounds (essentially "you didn't regulate us soon enough!") just took a huge hit:
https://open-web-advocacy.org/blog/apple-loses-on-appeal/
Expect Apple to appeal the appeal because delay is their strategy any time regulators find that their rent-extracting, anti-competitive nonsense is...er, nonsense (browsers, right-to-repair, charging cables, etc.)

More specifically, the idea that something must be a "standard" in order to ship, when some vendors are actively opposed but are not offering counter proposals to solve a real need is *barmy*. The denial of engagement itself keeps a design from becoming a standard!
It's illogical and circular, but also a recipe for platform stagnation, and one must ask, *cui bono*?

The hallmark of bad-faith web platform commentary is the demand that browsers that have reason to lead must move at the speed of those who don't.
It has never been so, but there's a history of leaders doing so irresponsibly...but they're not the same.
What makes Blink different is that our process forces us to be responsible when leading; I gave a talk on it a few years ago:

It is obvious that none of the traditional attempts to appease Moscow led to anything but escalation and suffering. Only a decisive strike against all Russian troops in occupied Ukraine, supported by massive military deliveries from the West can end this war in an acceptable way. It is still time to learn from the mistakes, from those in 1939 and those 2022/2023.
