Last night I set a new record for the length of time it took me to find a specific cybercriminal in real life. This one only took ten years, and hundreds of hours of research -- almost all of it in the wrong direction. I'm ecstatic, but also kind of mad at myself for missing key pieces of the puzzle that it turns out I had IN MY INBOX all along.

Anyway, the person in question is a big fish, and this going to be quite the story when it's ready. So, if I'm unresponsive to nudges etc for the next, er...week probably, you know why.

How the first gen ipod was reverse engineered to run #Rockbox:

1. Someone figured out that when loading a particular HTML page (for viewing on the device), the device would reboot. It crashed. A buffer overflow in the HTML viewer!

2. The device remembered what it did before the crash, so it would reload the HTML page again after boot. Unless you connected to it over USB and removed the HTML file it would stick in this cycle.

Democrat wins Louisiana Sheriff's race twice, judge says it has to be run a third time because this time 11 invalid ballots were found. The judge also won't let anyone examine the 11 ballots to see if they would have changed the outcome.

Also, it's interesting what happens when election officials admit that Sheriff is a partisan position and put it on the ballot as such.

IMO choosing tech besides React is a dramatically underrated advantage.

When you hire for, say, a Svelte or Vue dev, you're far, far more likely to get people who took learning into their own hands and went off the beaten path; people who know enough about the ecosystem to understand what React *doesn't* solve and why, instead of just people who took the most popular course on the most popular thing and don't have a clue what they don't know.

People who are *excited* about the stack.
