When I think about my time there (mostly for hacker cons), I think about the fact that the staff were helpful and chill and were good with us as a community. When I contrast that to how we're treated in Vegas — especially in the early days of Defcon — the contrast couldn't be larger.
Accepting, helpful spaces like that don't exist by accident. They don't exist if we don't create them and support them. They get pushed out by the fancy spaces with hot staff and fake smiles that are better at separating rich people from their money.
So if you want spaces like that to exist, you can either support the ones that are here today, or you can try to build your own.
Building these things is crazy hard. Read JWZ's blog ... about air conditioners, about fights outside and people attacking his staff ...
Having one survive for two decades is even harder
So if you can afford it, you should help them out.

In many cases this is resulting in me just canceling the service or deleting the account, but in all cases it's creating a massive waste of time for customer service and myself.
Email addresses and phone numbers are not immutable identifiers for users.
