This is why it's hard to build #ActivityPub apps, and this is why it's hard to make them interoperate. This is why nearly every project just treats "whatever mastodon does" as the de facto spec. Because the basis for ActivityPub doesn't actually lead to interoperability, or even shared understanding. And at some level, every fedi developer recognizes this.
