And just to be clear... this probably has more to do with the language choice than whoever wrote this code.

Not that this history and ideas are a secret, but it certainly doesn't get the marketing support that corporate narratives get.
Thanks to @j12i for pointing it out to me.

- TORPENHOW PLEASE DRIVE SLOWLY Torpenhow Hill, England When the Saxons arrived and asked the Welsh the name of that hill, the Welsh said "pen" which means "hill" in Welsh. So the Saxons used their word for hill, "tor," and called it Torpen (hill hill). Then the Norse arrived and the same process added the their world for hill "Haugr". So now it was Torpen Haugr (Hill Hill Hill). Later, the English called it Torpenhow Hill (Hill Hill Hill Hill) Language is awesome. (remote)

Reminder of one of my most Edible Temperature Take: Both Steven Pinker and Peter Singer bear large amounts of direct responsibility for the worst turns in contemporary western culture— especially concerning the popular understanding of ethics and society— and should be ostracized from the canon and public intellectualism as a whole 👍🏾
Pinker's beliefs as regards the lived experience of power, oppression, and the social construction of both criminality and suffering excuse the powerful and blame the oppressed. He's largely responsible for the prejudicial stereotype of autistic people as "robotic." He did a large amount of work to rehabilitate Charles Murray in the public view. And he aided Jeffery Epstein's legal defense.
Peter Singer has straight-up advocated for eugenics and the understanding of disabled life as one of inherent suffering and thus less valuable as recently as this year.
Do not heed them. Do not center them. Remove them from your work as much as possible.

Results are out for the guaranteed basic income pilot in Austin where 135 people got $1,000/mo for a year.
9% of people reported working less and 7% reported working more. Of those who worked less, half upskilled for better future jobs, and half chose unpaid care work.
Housing security significantly increased, as did food security. People lived in better housing and ate more balanced meals.
People also felt significantly more connected to the people and places in their neighborhoods.

I never had a Mac or Apple back in the day. Wildly too expensive. I got by with hand-me-down or flea market C64 stuff, followed by flea market and aftermarket PC stuff, which still made me unbelievably wealthy as compared to most of the world. (My dad was a ham, so my dad knew many people with old computers.)
I continue the flea market mentality by buying refurbished computers and running 10yo rigs (like the one I'm typing this on) at home. So I guess it sticks with you.
