Anyone else on iOS have this feature? #beepermini https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT213465

Rereading The Garden and the Stream: A Technopastoral – Hapgood really solidifies for me the idea that when we spend too much time in the “stream” (ie #Twitter, #Threads) we lose our ability to consume longer forms of content.

My experience suggests this is true. Curious to hear your experiences? https://hapgood.us/2015/10/17/the-garden-and-the-stream-a-technopastoral/

ANNOUNCE: @ROCDIGI group JS8 Learning & Exploration Net

#AmateurRadio #JS8 #RocDigi 📡

when: 9pm East Coast US time, Tuesday 30 JAN 2024
where: at the 20m JS8 meeting freq
(if 14.0780MHz is too busy
then we shall QSY to 14.107MHz)
and on Zoom (see below)
what: @ROCDIGI group JS8 Learning & Exploration Net

we have established a weekly net to explore the possibilities in JS8 with others, centered around but not limited to the Rochester NY area. feel free to join us no matter your location, it will be more fun with a good turnout to explore things like automated checkins and message relaying.

the idea is to establish a welcoming environment for people to get comfortable operating in this short-text-message mode, which works great with low power, with less-than-optimal antennas & sites, and over relatively long distances-per-watt.

this week there will be a parallel Zoom presentation, with a "live" walk-through of rig control and JS8Call settings & basic configuration and "live" operations. I will be sharing my desktop to the Zoom meeting while running the rig and JS8Call from that desktop. my partner in this amusing attempt at flying without a net (KN2Z) will organize and field questions from the Zoom text-chat display.

looking fwd to working together

And before the inevitable "just switch browsers" responses show up: a) I'm not going to go look up how to enable feature flags in mobile Chrome. That's too much trouble. And b) I shouldn't have to switch browsers to view content anyway.

I get that I can't expect the code to run everywhere. But if you want to show your users something, you have a responsibility to meet them where they are.

Web dev pet peeve: demos of new browser features that don't include a screenshot/video.

Thanks for the CodePen demo, but it doesn't actually work in my browser, so it's useless. I've come away with nothing but a code snippet with an output I have to just imagine.

Please, if at all possible, show demos in a way that's guaranteed to work no matter what browser or device I'm on.

When we look at #Meta's recent moves individually— billions spent on data centers and GPUs, big marketing push for AR VR, open-sourcing AI— it's easy to brush off #Zuckerberg as a wild-eyed tech bro chasing trends.

But, when we step back to consider these plays as a collective, and moves toward a long-term strategy, we see something new— infrastructure building and consumer influence to adopt data hungry tech.

Almost like Zuck is pivoting to Cloud Services.

I did a bronze workshop once. We worked on bas-reliefs to eliminate many of the difficulties encountered in a typical piece, but it was still quite involved. I did everything up to the wax casting and then handed it over to the foundry. I never did get a proper patina on the final piece though. :(

Worth checking out if you have an interest in bronze casting and the team effort it takes:
