In my data wrangling class today I showed a couple of database things, e.g. reading an 80GB CSV into duckdb and querying it. To make the point that you don't need a supercomputer I did it on a 16GB Mac Mini that lives in my house. R and Emacs inside tmux. The best part: at the end, I closed my laptop. But a student had a question, so I reopened it. Tailscale reconnected the ssh session and tmux reattached the still-running Emacs and R as if nothing had happened. Good WHAT SORCERY moment.

It's hard to know if it's more disappointing that smart people are unwilling to peek under the hood when confirmation bias is more comforting, or if the shitty legacy of React on products is going to continue to tarnish the web's reputation for another decade.
