Inspired by MongoDB's cookbook (🙇🏻‍♂️) and mostly done as a learning/scoping exercise, but a twist is my notebook lets you easily toggle between different models and ES-doing-the-data/query-embedding (via ML nodes in your deployment) vs doing all of that yourself when ingesting/querying.

no, open source isn't 'over' but a whole lot of folks are now finding out (yet again) why open governance and foundations are important

how many times does this have to happen before ppl realize the bait'n'switch vs open governance is a deliberate choice?

This is the same company that is trying to geographically ring-fence browser engine choice under the theory that it doesn't *have* a global market to answer to, only the specific EU jurisdictional restraints that apply when an iPhone is sold in the EU.

They're literally geofencing progress in the EU, then turning around to claim that the global market is more relevant when it suits them.

But we go on pretending

Social media does not have the power to separate us from our friends and family. Platforms are platforms, not island prisons.

I personally find framing #federation as a savior for personal relationships to be a wildly manipulative talking point.

It's simply untrue. I keep in touch with the people most important to me using a myriad of technologies. I've never felt as if I'm missing out on someone's life because we don't share the same social platform.

When I sign up for a software subscription, it is through the App Store if I can help it. I use Apple as an intermediary because I know that when it's time to cancel, all I need to do is open setting, click iCloud > Subscriptions > Cancel Subscription.

I've never had to Google how to cancel. I've never had to call a 1-800 number and speak to a rep who's trained to convince me not to cancel. And I've never had a SaaS company "accidentally" charge me again the following month.

When I create a new account on a platform, I use Sign in with #Apple, or I create a Hide My Email address. These features help me reduce the number of companies that sell my email address.

That's a win for me, the consumer, but marks a loss for companies that rely on user data revenue.

Libertarian tech bros disguised as consumer evangelists want to remove #Apple as the intermediary between our credit card numbers and software as a service companies. They want to reopen the spigot of user data on our iDevices.

That is all this is.

If they cared about the consumer, they'd lobby for user data protections. But they don't care about us. They care about their wallets, which feels a bit light since Apple has removed their ability to spy on us.
