It really sounds like Dorsey is hedging his bets.
The tech community is salty about him handing Twitter over to the village idiot. The crypto/blockchain libertarians are mad that BlueSky rejected their ideology
So, Dorsey distanced himself from BlueSky, while still retaining control, giving use permission to join without the taint of his presence
He then went to Nostr to bide his time and appease the block bros.
That feels more plausible than him just handing over his company to Jay Gruber.

The idea of BlueSky is not federation it is GDPR and moderation avoidance while ensuring everything remains public.
Once everything is federatable, there won't be anyone to blame for misleading content. You don't like it, it'll be up to you to choose the right moderation service.
Once that happens you'll pay BlueSky for a tailored experience.
That's my take on the existence of the business.
I still like the tech though.

Is there a documented, credible source for why Jack Dorsey has distanced himself from #BlueSky?
I know the narrative is that he now doesn't have as much power and influence over the platform and protocol. But what is that based on? The fact that he deleted his BlueSky account and now hangs on Nostr?
That doesn't make sense.

On the one hand, yes I think there are problems with the design of for-profit social media platforms (and the non-profit social media platforms that mimic their behavior), and on the other hand, I can't help but think social media is turning into a convenient scapegoat regarding the mental health of our youth who are growing up in a certain hellscape of our own creation that we are struggling to address let alone acknowledge.

I see video games, and I start thinking about how to make them cooperative. Like, "Why can't we have a bomberman style game, but it's a bunch of people working together to bring in a harvest while fending off hazards?"
Or what would a social media look like that was optimized to reduce energy consumption? Would it be slower with store and forward techniques? Text is probably optimal, but can we still have rich media? Would people use it?
