Some of y'all don't understand the gift that is not having to learn about some weird racist conditioning you have in public.

Because everyday, Black liberators are on these apps giving you the advice of a lifetime.

And instead of self reflecting next to a cozy fire and a recommended book, you decided to learn about your racism on the internet for all to see, under a Black woman's comment section.

My brothers and sisters in Christ, take the fucking advice and spare yourself the embarrassment.

Instead, ask your very White self what have YOU have done to dismantle racism in your own life. What are you actively doing to protect people of color from this type of behavior? That is the only question you get to ask or focus on.

Less on me. I wake up actualizing anti-blackness. What did you do today?

The day we stop approaching racism, particularly anti-Black racism, as an external problem we need to fix, and approach it as internal conditioning we need to undo, is the day we make actual progress.

The people who believe they don't need to do that are the ones who need to do it the MOST.

This is why moderation won't solve racism. Because who is going to suspend this diet-coke racist?

We can't code away the racism problem in the Fediverse.

Racist trolls are a symptom to a much bigger issue. Mastodon's demographics mirror Big tech. Every last power structure in the Fediverse is controlled by white people who have sprinkled in a couple of tokens towards the bottom.

No one has done any anti-racist work because we all have either decided that we were born enlightened or that our oppressed identities omit us from white supremacy.

The call. Inside the house. So on.

White LGBTQ+ people can be racist. Is that something we need to say?

So many responses here being like, as a trans person, I got such better community on Mastodon from the beginning.

Change that to "As a WHITE trans person."

Take a look at what Black, Arab and other nonwhite trans people have been saying on here, and how you've been treating them.

In other situations ... well, theoretically yes, but in practice it's not always smooth. Erin Kissane's Notes from a Mastodon Migration is a great read.

And of course you can't migrate your posts to another Mastodon server at all, whcih is what people really want. When people not familiar with the fediverse ask me why that is, I point out that the Mastodon code base is controlled by the same people who control the largest server, which is generally regarded as having bad moderation, so it's not in their interest to make it easy for people to move -- hmm, I wonder if that accounts for the lack of investment in this?@dragonfrog@mastodon.sdf.org @blogdiva@mastodon.social @KraftTea@mastodon.social @midgephoto@photog.social

We received a lot of abuse from trans white people.

Seems like people don't want to believe that the fediverse is as blatantly racist as it is. You don't see it because you're not the target. Period. Not because you're on better instance, or someone else is doing something right. You're not the target in a toxic platform.

It seems that according to Mastodon, only white queer people exist!

And we have the insufferable brand of "its your moderation that's the problem."

Not its you. Its your supremely white toxic curated community on here that's the problem.

How the fuck is #Mastodon a worse place for black people than #Twitter #xitter which is owned and operated by an actual fashy techbro?

This is a major collective failure and instead of doing “well actually” at black users who talk about discrimination on here we should be working harder on community moderation, which may require adding new features to Mastodon.

This is weirdo shit. And it's the least surprising thing to ever happen.

Needless to say, #Meta taking over our infrastructure is not a good thing for anyone but Meta. Full stop.
