This ended up being a pretty solid essay overall. I think the arguments hold up well. I don't fully agree with the conclusions regarding AI assistants, but I apparently work in a subset of the industry where things like stack overflow et al. are usually not helpful to me, so I can't imagine a scenario where AI assistants are any better. Good documentation and well written textbooks *are* helpful, so I hope we continue with those things.

restart.sh (stops service, cleans logs, starts service)
start.sh (starts service, appends to log files if exists else creates them)
stop.sh (gracefully kills off service, kills off any existing log-watchers)

split logfiles into:

storytellerErrorLog.txt

I'm considering migrating my #MicroBlog somewhere else, or just scrapping it altogether.

The community is cool, the product is good. But now that the #fediverse is the Meta-funded social web, I don't know that I want my dollars funding it.

I see something like #cohost closing and I think, damn I could've been supporting that place with a monthly payment.

In short, I want the little disposable income I have going to a vision of the web I believe in. I won't be tricked by Zuck a second time.

I was reading articles about the flooding in western North Carolina in The New York Times. The articles did not even mention climate change, not a single mention. This is what’s driving it. And then there’s the larger context of irreversible global overheating, which is caused by the fossil fuel industry. They’ve been lying and blocking action for decades.

The planet’s overheating. It’s irreversible. It’s caused by the fossil fuel industry. And the reason I say “industry” specifically, not “fossil fuels,” is because this industry has been systematically blocking action for almost 50 years, for decades and decades.

This will get worse as the planet continues to get hotter. We’ll see even worse storms in the future. Every day that we continue burning fossil fuels and allowing this industry to continue spreading disinformation and blocking action, the planet gets hotter.

Hotter oceans fuels these storms, causing them to intensify more rapidly, to get much more powerful. And a hotter atmosphere holds more water, so we get these intense rainfalls, which cause the sort of flooding that’s happening right now.

I think that this is the most evil thing that's possible to imagine, that fossil fuel executives and lobbyists will continue to lie so they can line their bank accounts at the irreversible expense of our planet and the future of humanity.

It seems to me that many people in the Web-Component discussion approach them with a mental model that's too heavily influenced by conventional approaches of Vue/Svelte/React and so forth. I highly recommend the course on FrontendMaster's by @davatron5000 which takes a very different route to explain them than most resources out there. I was rather opposed to WC, but just needed to shift the mental model a bit; and now I use them regularly!
